The Castle is blessed with apartments from almost every century from the twelfth to the twentieth and is open to visitors all year round. It has had, for many years, a fine collection of 16th - 19th century furniture on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in addition to the Castle's own collections.

This grade 1 listed building boasts the following features:

• Fifteen rooms open to visitors, including the Great Hall, Dungeon and Lady’s Chamber
• The Armoury, with its exhibition of Medieval arms and armour,
• The Tamworth Story: an interactive local history exhibition which includes items from the famous “Staffordshire Hoard” - the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found.
• A fascinating collection of original artifacts in fully-furnished period room settings

In 2011 the Castle was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, which together with grants from Tamworth Borough Council and the Friends of Tamworth castle and Museum, amounted to over £1 million, which was used for major refurbishment and improvement works to the Castle over the following two years.
